What does it look like to write, and make art, for everyone?&nbsp;Exoteric ideas are supposed to be for everyone — accessible and widely shared. They aren’t for the privileged few and they deal with the commonplace. Where does that leave writing? The pieces in Exoterica: An Anthology play with this tension and explore the meaning of the esoteric’s lesser-known twin. Exoterica is the inaugural publication of Cantine Press, a publishing experiment launched in 2024 by Julia Uyttewaal that brings together new + established writers in multiple languages. As the Creative Director of the press, I brought this anthology to life visually. The book features over 15 authors and artists, including four of my own published drawings. They also grow pear and cider trees and produce their very own hard cider. I designed their logo – a whimsical snail made up of the “C” and “R” letterforms and a custom hand drawn font. They wanted the logomark to feel like a tag that they could easily write on crates and boxes of veggies that are delivered regionally to various markets and restaurants. They recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds for the launch of PULP Public School (PPS) — an online school featuring classes, readings and events. I had the pleasure of creating a coffee table book as a gift to donors. They are dedicated to providing the local community with organic, whole-grain sourdough bread and pastries. James uses a stone-mill to mill the grain before each bake to ensure the most aromatic, flavorful, and nutritious bread.&nbsp; I had the pleasure of creating a new logo, bread bags, and totes for this special little spot. Honoring the name and coastal location, we wanted to portray the beautiful formation of pelicans flying just above the sea horizon.
